SOME OF THE ISSUES...

ISSUES

There are many things to be considered when recruiting volunteers.  One of the most important is making sure to follow up once a person has expressed interest in volunteering for your organization.  These are just a few questions you need to make sure you can answer when someone approaches you:  What process do you have in place?  Is there a formal application process?  Who will be supervising the volunteer?

Mixing employees and volunteers can be a tricky business. Creating an “employee” manual for your volunteers is just as important as the one you create for your paid staff.  Learn some of the elements that need to be included in both and get some easy templates to make your job a little easier.

Let’s face it, we all like to receive recognition for the work that we do. Volunteers are no different.  When thanking volunteers, what limits do we face?
At what point does a gift become compensation?
Why isn’t a simple thank you enough, or is it?

While we all hope it doesn’t come to that, sometimes it needs to happen and it is perfectly acceptable, but what is the best way to let a volunteer know that their services are no longer helpful to your organization?  Learn some tips and tricks that may help you “fire” a volunteer and (hopefully) still keep them as a supporter of your organization
.

Who is responsible if a volunteer gets hurt while donating time to your organization?  Do you need volunteer insurance?  When do background investigations need to be done and how in depth do they need to be?  These are just a few issues that face us when we have a volunteer workforce.  Get the latest information on what liability your organization faces when you engage a volunteer.
