Exploring Pastels Class-January 12 thru February 9

Beginning and Intermediate art students are invited to join this five-week class.

Explore the world of pastels with Salem pastel and watercolor artist Deanna White.  “We will be experimenting with soft, hard, and oil pastels on sanded and colored papers.  Come try the unique versatility and beautiful colors of ‘painting’ with pastels.  We will cover pastel techniques, texture, design, and color. We will also explore various pastel surfaces and learn about preservation and framing techniques for pastels.  Bring your favorite photos and come play with us!”

Watercolor Basics~April 6-May 4, 2010

Youth Classes

Jan. 5-Feb. 2-CARTOONING taught by MICHAEL EARLE. In this cartooning class you will explore various aspects of cartoon drawing including exaggeration, cartoon traditions (like running of a cliff and standing in mid-air before falling) and understanding the physical differences between a variety of characters (the cute character, wise guy, the bully, the goofball, nerd, dweeb, etc). All this will be enhanced with video examples. Caution: TAKE THIS CLASS ONLY IF
YOU LIKE TO DRAW, LAUGH, AND SHARE CARTOON STORIES. All
supplies furnished. Ages 7-15+. Tues., 4:15-5:30pm. $50/5weeks.*

Jan. 7-Feb. 4-ANIMATION by MICHAEL EARLE. In this class you will leap backward to the early days and then work your way forward. Exploring through video clips and discussion, hand drawn cel animation, stop motion techniques and computer generated characters before arriving at digital “Film Free” animation. Students will then apply this knowledge to the making of their own flip book. All supplies furnished. CAUTION: IF YOU TAKE THIS CLASS BE
PREPARED TO HEAR PEOPLE CALL YOU AN “ANIMATION KNOWIT-
ALL.” Ages 8-12+. Thursdays, 4:15-5:45pm. $50/5 weeks.*

Jan. 14-Feb. 18 THEATRE CLASS FOR KIDS taught by CWERKS, Inc.. Cwerks is teaching: On Stage, for ages 6-10, at AC Gilbert’s Discovery Village. Learn acting techniques through theatre games and activities. Students improve their creativity, imagination, concentration and performance skills. Families are invited the last class day for a demonstration/performance. Thursdays, Jan. 14-Feb. 18, 4-5 p.m. $36 for members/$50 for non-members

Jan. 30-Feb. 20-CLAY CLASSSES FOR YOUTH taught by KATHY LORD. Kathy is a clay artist who loves teaching children of all ages how to create with clay. She has been teaching for over 17 years and has fun ideas. The projects are made using slab and coil methods. In this class the student will create 2 clay projects using white clay and food safe glazes. Kathy will fire the projects in her home kiln and return them to class. All supplies furnished. Ages 6-15 suggested, but adults love this class, too! Saturday mornings 11:00- 12:00. $66/4 weeks
