Winter Art Solstice Art Sale

Open to NW artists, the City of Keizer is holding a Winter Art Sale event at the new Civic Center, 930 Chemawa Rd NE, Keizer on January 29-30, 2010. Up to three pieces of original art per artist. All mediums accepted. ART IS DUE JAN. 27, 2-7 pm at the Civic Center. For details, download a prospectus at keizerarts.com.
Part of the Winter Art Solstice, a two day celebration of art and honoring the founding of the City with the unveiling of the Thomas Dove Keizur statue.

City of Keizer Mayor's Invitational

The new Civic Center for the City of Keizer offers an exciting opportunity for Northwest artists to showcase approximately 20 pieces of wall art. The pieces to be hung will be selected by jury and will hang from January 29 through December, 2010. The call for art is open to all Northwest artists and all mediums are welcome. All framing and matting must be professional in appearance. For safety purposes Plexiglas must be used, rather than glass. Art hung in this facility will be exposed to natural light and UV protective, non-glare Plexiglas can be used at the artist’s discretion. Unframed art must have edges that are professional in appearance and staples cannot be visible. Freestanding work is not being accepted at this time. Hanging wire is required on all pieces.

First Place – The City of Keizer will be purchasing one or more pieces which will become part of Keizer’s permanent art collection
Second Place – $400 cash award

The Living River
JURIED ART EXHIBIT April 2 through May 1, 2010

The Living River is sponsored by the McKenzie River Trust in recognition of its twentieth anniversary. The exhibition celebrates the beauty and vibrancy of the rivers and streams of western Oregon and the important role they play in the life of our communities.
We invite you to submit artwork in any media (with size limitations) to be considered for inclusion in the juried exhibit. Images must be submitted on CDs for jurying by January 30, 2010.

Salem Art Fair and Festival

Applications are now being accepted for Salem Art Association’s (SAA) 61st Annual Salem Art Fair & Festival to be held July 16, 17 and 18, 2010. Visual artists, performing artists, and local nonprofits are encouraged to apply. Applications and information are available online at www.SalemArt.org.

Recognized as one of the west coast’s major cultural events, SAA’s annual Salem Art Fair & Festival is a lively three-day celebration that draws more than 100,000 visitors each year. Held in picturesque Bush’s Pasture Park, this event is the primary fundraiser for Salem Art Association and provides revenue to more than 60 community nonprofits and 200 visual artists.

SAA, one of Oregon’s largest nonprofit community arts organizations, operates the Bush House Museum, three galleries in the Bush Barn Art Center, and a wide range of Community Arts Education and School Programs that reach 11,000 school children each year. SAA is accepting applications from visual artists who wish to sell their work in the Salem Art Fair & Festival’s Artist Marketplace. Fine art and craftspeople who work in any media are invited to apply. Two hundred artists will be selected by a jury process. Applications are available and will be accepted exclusively through www.zapplication.org. Application deadline is February 12, 2010.

Victorian Valentine's Day Celebration and Poetry Contest
Winners will be announced at Family Fun Saturday - Victorian Valentine's Day.

The Thomas Kay Woolen Mill was built in 1889, at the height of the Victorian-era and both the Mill and the Victorian Age had a significant impact on life in Salem. Victorian Valentine’s Day brings the crafts of this bygone-era to life for children to explore. The cost for Victorian Valentine’s Day is $2 per person and includes Victorian activities, storytelling and entertainment. For more information please contact Kathleen at 503-585-7012.

Victorian Valentine's Day is a day filled with crafts and fun. The highlight is Mission Mill Museum’s 5th annual Poetry Contest. Poems will be read by the winners at 11:30 a.m.

Mission Mill Museum is calling all poets between the ages of 5-18 to participate in the Victorian Valentine Poetry Contest. Entries will be displayed during the event and winners will be announced at that time. Winning poems will also appear in Mission Mill Museum’s Spring/Summer newsletter. And will be posted on the Museum's website. Poems will be entered and judged in four age categories: 5-8, 9-12, 13-15, and 16-18.

Poets may follow any style or theme. Entries must be no more than one page in length and must include the poet’s name, address, phone number, email, age and a parent’s name and email. The deadline is 4:00 p.m. on January 29, 2010. Members of Mission Mill Museum’s Board and community will judge entries. 1st and 2nd place will be awarded for each age category. Schools and groups are invited to participate. The winners receive a Mission Mill Museum gift basket.
